Computer Getting Older? How To Know If It Needs Repaired

Joy Sullivan

If your computer is getting older, it may start slowing down. You also may start to have other problems. Below are some of these problems so you can know if you should get your computer repaired. If you do decide to repair it, you should take it to a computer repair service to ensure it is done correctly.

Slowed Down

One common problem with older computers is they become slower. One thing that can cause this is filling up a hard drive. If your hard drive is low on space, your computer will slow down. The more files you store, the more processing power the computer has to use, which will slow it down. To help with this, go through your programs and delete everything that you do not use. You will likely find you have many programs you have not touched in some time. How you do this depends on the operating system you use. Refer to the manual that came with your computer on how to uninstall and delete programs. If you. are having problems, take your computer to a repair service and they can clean your computer for you.

Spyware and Viruses

If your computer has spyware, malware, and/or viruses, this can cause many problems. Your computer will become much slower, you will have more popups than normal, websites will be slow to open, your computer may lock up a lot, etc. One way to help with this is to download anti-spyware software. Make sure the software is updated and run a full scan. Delete any spyware files that are found. You can also do the same with viruses. Download an anti-virus software, update it, and run a full scan. If any viruses are found, delete them from your computer. There are free and paid software programs available to help you do this. If you find you have a lot of spyware and viruses, you should consider taking your computer to a computer repair service to clean it up for you.

Low RAM

RAM stands for random access memory. When you first purchased your computer, it may have had enough RAM. Now that you have had your computer for some time, you likely have programs that require more memory. If there is not enough, your computer will slow down, or programs may not open at all. Fortunately, this is easy to take care of, as you can simply add more RAM to your computer. If you do not have experience, take your computer to a computer repair service. This will ensure the right type of RAM is used and that it is installed correctly.
